Painting and costume construction installation
Dia de los Muertos
oil on canvas + constructions
60" x 96" overall
2011

"Dia de los Muertos" is a painting and costume construction installation piece that acknowledges the significance of the Latin American "Day of the Dead" celebration. The actual costumes used by the painting's models "frame" each side of the painting and are embroidered with phraseology appropriate to the theme. Also accompanying the painting are four miniature chairs, each of which serves as a pedestal for small, silver painted objects: a bee, a circle of leaves, the tooth of an animal surrounded by beads and an empty goblet.
